Bacon Burger Bowls

Everyone loves a great cheeseburger! What is better than a great burger? A bacon burger bowl with whatever fixings you want in it. A dear friend of mine, Laura, posted in our Facebook group her daughter making burger bowls. This gave me some inspiration to create a recipe and blog about it. It was a hit with my kids and Mr. Low Carb. ‘Lil’ Miss Low Carb came into the kitchen and said, “Mama, this is so filling!” and it is the truth, SO FILLING! You can use your favorite burger seasonings, I decided to create a diy version of Lawry’s Seasoning salt instead of using the store bought as the second ingredient listed is sugar! Sugar is hidden in everything which is why I cannot stress enough how important reading labels is. This recipe makes 12 4oz burger bowls, adjust recipe up or down as needed or make larger bowls yielding less servings. This will of course not match with my nutrition info listed at the bottom of this post.

What you will need:

  • 3 lbs ground beef
  • 2.5 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp your favorite burger seasoning *see my recipe below for the seasoning I used.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or your favorite sliced cheese
  • 18 slices of cooked bacon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl combine ground beef, worcestershire sauce, burger seasoning together until well mixed.

Line a baking dish or lipped baking pan with parchment paper. I do not care to use aluminum foil when cooking if it is going to touch the food. Separate into 12 4oz balls and shape into bowls. You can use the bottom of a mason jar or smaller rounded cup if you’d like. I just free shaped them and it worked out fine. I did use a scale to weigh out each ball to 4oz.

Next add cheese, a little under 1/8th of a cup and 1 1/2 sliced of busted up bacon to each bowl, you can also add any toppings like mushrooms at this point, then top with a bit more cheese, a little less than 1/8th of a cup. You could also break up sliced cheese as well, I made one burger with swiss cheese as I love swiss cheese, my son said it was good. That’s right, he ate it on me! Guess I will have to make another one.

Bake for 30 minutes, you could cover with a foil tent as the food is not touching the foil, I was out of foil so I just baked it without the foil tent. Once they are out of the oven let set for a couple minutes before digging in. Top with your favorite burger toppings like lettuce, tomato, low carb ketchup, bbq sauce. Whatever you fancy. The burger bowl will shrink a bit, however remains very filling.

Nutrition for one 4oz burger bowl with only bacon, cheese and burger. If you add mushrooms or anything else it will change the carb count so be sure to take that into account. Carbohydrate 2g, Protein 40g, Fat 28g

*The seasoning I made for the burger bowls and will use in place of Lawry’s seasoning salt in other recipes: 4 tbsp Onion Powder, 3 tbsp. garlic powder, 2 tbsp sea salt, 1 tbsp paprika, 1 tsp dry mustard, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, 1 tsp turmeric. Mix all together and store in an airtight container.
